How to Start a Prayer Journal and Keep Going

A prayer journal does not have to be fancy or long. It is simply a place to write down what you are praying about and, over time, to see how God has answered.
Keep the start small
Five minutes is enough. Pick a regular time, like after your morning coffee or before bed, and tie it to something you already do.
A simple pattern to follow
- Thanks: write down two or three things you are grateful for.
- Scripture: copy a verse that stood out and note what it says to you.
- Requests: list what you are praying for, for yourself and for others.
- Answers: leave space to record when and how prayers were answered.
Use prompts when you feel stuck
- What is weighing on my heart today?
- Who needs prayer this week?
- Where did I see God at work recently?
- What am I trusting God with right now?
Do not aim for perfect
Missed days happen. Pick it back up without guilt. The goal is a steady habit, not a flawless streak.
Look back often
Once a month, read through your old entries. Seeing answered prayers written in your own words is encouraging, and it is one of the best reasons to keep a journal.
Choose a format you will use
Some people love pen and paper, others prefer typing. The Prayer Journal in my shop is a fillable PDF, so you can type your entries or print the pages and write by hand.
A few extras: no bleed pens, a binder for your printed pages and Bible tabs.
